We are excited to be joined by author Doreen Cunningham, for a slow Sunday morning, filled with coffee, cake, and conversations around her new memoir, Soundings - Journeys in the Company of Whales.
Soundings is the story of a woman reclaiming her life, mile by mile; a child growing to love an ocean that is profoundly endangered; and a mother learning from another species how to parent in a time of unprecedented change. Doreen also reflects on her early years in journalism, where she first visited Utqiagvik, the northernmost town in Alaska, reporting on climate change among indigenous whaling communities.
Doreen won the RSL Giles St Aubyn Award 2020 and was shortlisted for the Eccles Centre and Hay Festival Writers Award 2021 for Soundings, her first book.
Doreen will be joining us on screen, live from the UK to answer your questions and talk about her journey following the grey whale migration. We will also open up the conversation to the room for this wholesome event.
There will be signed bookplates available. You do not need to have read the book to join this discussion. Arrive early, as spaces are limited. If you wish to secure a seat, visit the Barkley Café to sign your name.
