Welcome to the Pacific Rim Whale Festival

Pacific Rim Whale Festival

Yes, the Whale Festival is on, just in a different format from past years.  Dates this year will be March 15 to 21, 2021.  In order to stay within the guidelines set down by the BC Provincial Health Officer, this years festival will be almost entirely virtual and any in person activities will be within your own family bubble.  We know we can provide an educational, entertaining, and fun festival with the benefit of reaching a much larger audience.  Check out the events page which will be updated as we confirm our speakers and activities.  We thank you for your continued support and wish you all a safe and healthy spring.

IT'S A ZOOM ZOOM WORLD...

How do the virtual events works?  Our Festival Co-ordinator, Sarah, has put together an interesting, educational, and entertaining series of virtual presentations via ZOOM throughout the week.  We recommend that you use the links provided on our Events Page or the Printable Calendar to register for these events in advance, even if you feel you will not be able to view them at the appointed time.  This will enable you to go in and view the presentation at your convenience.  There is no cost to watch our Speaker Series and Children's Week Series.

Maritime Kid's Day Now Maritime Kid's Week

You will see from our festival calendar, available as a printable item from our Calendar of Events page, that there are activities and presentations available each day for the whole family.  If you are in the Ucluelet or Tofino areas, you will be able to pick up the necessary Kid's Day Packs, complete with cookie decorating supplies, at specified locations in town (see our events page for these locations).  Please follow all COVID protocols.  Many of the items will also be available from our Printable Material buttons on the Calendar of Events page.  Make note of the suggested activity event on Saturday by Strawberry Isle.  SIMRS will also be making activity materials available for some Whaley fun you can do at your own pace.

We would like to thank our major sponsor Remote Passages Marine Excursions for their continued support in making Maritime Kid's Week possible this year.

Grey Whale ID Hunt

A new item we have for this year is a scavenger hunt of sorts to help you see how some of the local Grey Whales have been identified over the years.  There will be signs along the Wild Pacific Trail from Brown's Beach parking lot to the OJ Deck.  Find the signs, take a look at the catalog via the QR code on the signs (or present on our events page), and identify each of the eight whales along the trail.  Then enter to win prizes.  All this can be done within your own safe bubble.  Be careful to practice all COVID safety protocols as you pass others on the trail.
